Who We Are

Who We Are

D&A Boxing School of Excellence opened its doors in 2006 with the vision of helping local youth from the South Birmingham area.

With the lack of facilities available to young people in the area, local youth were bored and left with nothing to do. This lead to some becoming involved in crime and antisocial behavior, which has a huge impact on our society.

Social inclusion through sports participation is considered to be an avenue for improving social connection opportunities for marginalised groups such as young people. So with Anthony extensive knowledge of boxing, they used their combined skills and knowledge and decided to open a gym to provide the local youth with a safe environment to train in.

Boxing / Fitness Coach

My names Alex and i’m a college student who has now been coaching for over a year. I have been boxing for around 4 years now and fighting during those times. Being surrounded near to everyday in the gym I was embraced into a comfortable setting, enabling me to feel confident enough to experience coaching at a younger age. As I was starting to coach I observed and listened to my surrounding coaches, constantly taking on board what they were teaching and the advice they provided me. I got stuck straight into teaching all the classes to not leave any boundaries and get familiarised with the different teaching methods needed for different types of ability of people and styles. I now confidently teach and advise fellow boxers and new, eager learning boxers in classes. As well as supporting athletes and beginners in 1 to 1 sessions informing them on boxing technique, drills, fitness and ring knowledge that i have learnt by physically doing my self and by being taught by my supportive, more experienced, coaches. Alex

Nomi

DNA gave me the opportunity to become what I am today. From knowing nothing about boxing to a professional boxer in the sport, I’ve come leaps and bounds. Alongside boxing, I’ve also been taught to give back, and with that, I like to use the knowledge that I have to help people become the best version of themselves. Volunteering as a coach at the gym, I like to hone in on discipline and work ethic. Explaining things thoroughly, I’ll be sure to become your friend, as well as your coach. I’m also a first aider and a qualified safeguard who is sure to keep you in reliable hands.

Leon Mitchell

Boxing/Fitness Coach

I started my boxing journey in the military, after stepping out of the ring for a few years I moved to Birmingham and decided to get back in and joined DNA where I have been now for around a year.

I started in the beginners class to dust off the cobwebs and re-learnt the basics to set my foundation to build

Upon and enhance my boxing skill set. I then moved up to the advanced class to further my training and knowledge. Since then I have made friends for life and even took the leap of becoming a coach for the beginners class to hopefully pass on all the things I have learnt.
